On 3 October, RusKom successfully hosted the free practical seminar “Why Do I Feel Unhappy Abroad — and What Can I Do About It?” The meeting brought participants together for an open conversation about the challenges of relocation, psychological adaptation and finding inner support.

The initiative to gather in a supportive sharing circle emerged as part of RusKom’s work to support Russian-speaking and other migrant communities in Istanbul. Its purpose is to create a space where people can share their feelings, discuss pressing concerns and feel that others with similar experiences are close by.

The meeting was led by Alina Rabicheva Erdur, Vice President of RusKom, a physiologist and practising psychologist working in integral neuroprogramming (INP).

The discussion focused on experiences familiar to many people after relocating: anxiety, irritability, loneliness, a lack of like-minded people, and the loss of familiar roles and status. Particular attention was given to situations where life appears settled on the outside, yet a sense of inner comfort and belonging is still missing.

The practical session helped participants take a closer look at their feelings and the possible reasons behind their difficulties. Alina introduced several techniques for working with emotional tension and accessing inner resources. Participants were able to try the exercises during the meeting, ask questions and discuss how they were feeling.

In her practice, which will become a regular offering for RusKom guests, the facilitator uses integral neuroprogramming (INP). This is an approach to psychotherapy and psychological counselling that aims to address not only the outward signs of a problem but also its deeper causes: inner conflicts, fears, limiting beliefs, past experiences and unconscious reactions. The methods used focus on changing established emotional and behavioural patterns, processing traumatic experiences, reducing anxiety, developing inner resources and building more adaptive ways of responding.

“The aim of INP is to help a person do more than feel temporarily better: it is to change the internal mechanisms that sustain the problem and create new strategies for behaviour, thinking, and relating to oneself and to life,” explains the project’s creator, Alina Rabicheva Erdur.

Participants themselves noted that the sharing circle format gave the meeting particular value. Everyone was able to choose the way of participating that felt comfortable for them: speaking, listening, asking questions or trying the suggested exercises. The open conversation and supportive atmosphere were what made the meeting a success.

RusKom thanks Alina Rabicheva Erdur for leading the seminar and all participants for their trust and openness. We hope to make these meetings regular, giving the city’s migrant communities more opportunities to connect, support one another and find stability during periods of crisis and change.
